Travel and location

Conference Location:

The conference will take place at the Evoluon Conference Centre in Eindhoven, a former science museum erected by the electronics and electrical company Philips in Eindhoven in 1966.

The building is unique due to its very futuristic design, resembling a landed flying saucer. It was designed by architect Louis Christiaan Kalff, while the exhibition was conceived by James Gardner. The building was based on an idea by Frits Philips, who originally made a sketch of the building on a paper napkin. Frits Philips wanted to give the people of Eindhoven a beautiful and educational gift to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the company that bears his family name.

The original museum closed down in 1989 and the Evoluon was converted into a conference center, opening in 1998.

If the bus stop is about 100 metres before the viaduct walk in the direction the bus is going to the entrance of the premises of the Evoluon.

About Eindhoven

Eindhoven received its city rights in 1232. At the end of the nineteenth century, Philips established its lamps factory in Eindhoven, leading to a stream of new workers and at the same time residents of the city. In 1920 the town of Eindhoven was merged with five surrounding villages (now city areas): Gestel, Stratum, Strijp, Tongelre and Woensel. Around 750,000 people live in the Eindhoven region or SRE (Cityregion Eindhoven).

Together with the Port of Rotterdam and Schiphol Airport, the Eindhoven region is one of the three mainports in the Netherlands. The city is more than justified in calling itself 'Brainport'. The region accounts for around 40 per cent of R&D investments in the Netherlands. With its leading Design Academy and the Philips Design Center, as well as numerous small and medium-size enterprises, the region has a big voice in the field of design.

Eindhoven presents itself as a 'City of Light' by special lighting effects for all kinds of outdoor and public objects (buildings and works of art, as well as public parks and gardens), or projecting images or poetic texts.

Eindhoven isn't just a city with high-tech activities, it also offers a varied selection of extensive public parks and gardens. You can take enjoyable walks or just relax in the Stadswandelpark, Wandelpark Eckart, the Philips de Jongh Wandelpark, the Philips van Lennep Park and the Henri Dunant Park, as well as around the 'Karpendonkse Plas' lake. In Eindhoven you can enjoy top sports, both as a spectator or as a competitor.
